Notching the Ridge Pole     The ridge pole is notched so that the crossing of four beams above the center post would take up minimal vertical space. Otherwise, the lodge would have had a steeper crown. We wanted a natural, crowning form that looked like other small rises in the area. Photo by Matt Skinner.
